Most recently, John served as Chief Meteorologist at KLKN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he covered record snowstorms, wildfires, and significant severe weather outbreaks. Prior to Lincoln, he anchored weather at the CBS4/FOX59 duopoly in Indianapolis, earning multiple Emmy nominations including one for coverage of a December 2015 tornado. He also worked as weekend meteorologist at WDCW-TV in Washington D.C., at the time the country's sixth largest television market.
John spent twelve years at KFVS-TV, the CBS affiliate serving the Cape Girardeau, Missouri — Paducah, Kentucky — Harrisburg, Illinois television market, where he was the lead severe weather and winter storm forecaster. He also served as Director of Internet Development for the station. In 2013, he moved to Colorado to join KOAA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Colorado Springs, covering historic wildfires, flash flooding, blizzards, and tornadoes.
John is a passionate storm chaser who has logged more than 18,200 miles chasing storms across the Plains and Midwest. In 2005, he served as a consultant for the public television documentary "Tornado Alley: Back Home Again in Indiana," produced by Ball State University and aired on PBS stations nationally. He is a member of the National Weather Association and received the NWA Seal of Approval in 2003. He has also received citations from the Illinois Broadcasters Association, the Missouri Broadcasters Association, and earned an Emmy in 2001 for the weather special "Weathering the Storm."
John studied meteorology at Ball State University under Dr. David Arnold, a noted severe weather and storm chase forecaster, and honed his forecasting skills during a two-year internship and apprenticeship under Chief Meteorologist Brian Wilkes at WXIN-TV in Indianapolis.
